Balancing the Scales...

The fresh intro for Big News Events, a major show in China, was a totally different project for Digital Twigs. Instead of building miniature mountains, I would be creating a scaled UP world. The concept of the piece was a rollercoaster ride through a pinball machine with the shows mascot as the pinball. Our pinball would have a 4 inch diameter, much larger than a real one. Everything was getting 4 times bigger. Well…not everything.

The client wanted us to design a pinball world that included famous structures that their core audience would recognize. Imagining the buildings as scale models inside a magnified world became confusing quickly. After a few test shoots and a lot of math, I was able to get a good grasp on how big our scaled up version of a pinball machine miniature of a huge building scaled down should be.

Materials included ElWire, PVC board, mylar, and of course the mainstays; cardboard, matte board, and chrome spray paint. Love that chrome…
